Philippines: Protesters plan motorcades in Metro Manila June 12
Activists plan motorcades to the Chinese Consulate in Metro Manila, Philippines, from 08:00 June 12. Disruptions likely.
Event
Multiple groups plan to hold motorcades from several locations to the Chinese Consulate in the Makati area of Metro Manila from 08:00 June 12. Organizers plan to start the motorcades from Ayala Triangle, Baclaran Church, Rajah Sulayman Plaza, and the University of the Philippines' Diliman campus. Activists will then protest outside the consulate from 09:00. Organizers have not announced motorcade routes. Participants intend to denounce President Rodrigo Duterte's policies towards Chinese maritime activity in the South China Sea. Dozens of people will likely participate.
Security personnel will likely monitor the motorcades and the protest at the Chinese Consulate. Minor skirmishes between protesters and police cannot be ruled out. Localized transport disruptions are likely on and near motorcade routes as well as outside the consulate.
Advice
Avoid the motorcades and protest due to possible violence. If skirmishes break out, leave the area immediately. Follow all security personnel instructions. Allow additional travel time near protests.
