Snowfall-related disruptions are likely along road routes in parts of the Eastern Cape Province and surrounding areas through July 23. The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued several disruptive snowfall warnings for the area on July 22 and 23. Snowfall has already resulted in some disruptions. The following roads or passes are closed or disrupted as of the morning, July 23:

  • Penhoek Pass along the N6 is closed.

  • Lootsberg Pass along the N9 is closed.

  • Wapadsberg Pass along the R61 is closed.

  • Snow is impacting the R56 between Steynsberg and Molteno, the Nico Malan Pass, and R58 Barkly Pass.

Authorities may announce further road closures in the coming hours in response to the adverse weather conditions.
