Militants associated with Tigray Peoples' Liberation Front (TPLF) reportedly killed at least 120 people in an attack on civilians in a village near the town of Dabat, Amhara Region, Sept. 1-2. Local officials have not provided further details regarding the incident.
Context
Since mid-July, heavy clashes have been reported on Tigray's western, southern, and eastern fronts. Violence has also spilled over into the neighboring Afar and Amhara regions. In early August., authorities in the federal government accused the TPLF of a similar attack in Galocoma, Afar region, leaving at least 12 people dead and 12 others wounded. Moreover, as of mid-August, authorities in Amhara have imposed a night curfew in several Amhara cities, including Bahir Dar, Injibara, Kombolcha, Dessie, Debre Birhan. Recently, the Ethiopian National Defense Force (ENDF) appears to have regained control of Debre Zebit, Nefas Memucha, Gashena, and Kimer Dingay, all located in the Amhara Region, while TPLF still controls Debre Tabor, South Gondar Zone (Amhara). Additionally, the ENDF, with support of Eritrean forces, has reportedly repelled TPLF’s operations along the western front.
