Mayotte: Teachers to strike islandwide, Sept. 23

Teacher's unions have called for an islandwide strike, Sept. 23, to demand improved salaries and working conditions, as well as in reaction to COVID-19-related measures. Strike participants could form picket lines near educational facilities. A related protest is reportedly scheduled from 09:00 in front of the Rectorat in Mamoudzou.

Localized traffic disruptions are likely near any protests that materialize. Gatherings are likely to be peaceful; however, low-level scuffles are possible if protesters attempt to breach police cordons.
