Moldova: Authorities tighten domestic COVID-19-related measures until at least Oct. 30 /update 22
Moldova tightens domestic COVID-19 measures until at least Oct. 30; international entry restrictions remain in place.
Event
Authorities in Moldova have declared a nationwide state of healthcare emergency until at least Oct. 30 due to rising COVID-19 cases. As part of attempts to curb the recent infection surge, officials have introduced restrictions on people using certain facilities and indoor or outdoor mass events. Those wishing to attend bars, restaurants, cinemas, nightclubs, concert halls, and other similar facilities must now demonstrate proof of a recent negative COVID-19 PCR test taken within the previous 72 hours (or an antigen test taken within the previous 48 hours), full vaccination, or recovery from the virus in the previous 90 days.
Most businesses are permitted to operate provided they adhere to social distancing and capacity requirements, though bars and restaurants must close at 23:00. Facemasks are mandatory in enclosed public spaces and on public transport. Stricter measures are in place in areas with higher infection rates, including tighter limits on gatherings and reduced operating hours for certain sectors.
International Entry Restrictions
All international arrivals must present either a certificate of vaccination, a certificate of recovery, a negative PCR test taken in the 72 hours before entry, or a negative antigen test taken in the 48 hours before entry. Vaccine certificates are valid from 14 days after the final dose was administered. Certificates of recovery are valid between 15 and 180 days after confirmation of infection or 90 days after a positive antibody test.
Permitted travelers unable to meet these requirements must self-isolate for 14 days upon arrival; isolation can be ended early following a negative COVID-19 test taken no less than seven days after arrival.
Authorities could reimpose, extend, further ease, or otherwise amend any restrictions with little-to-no notice depending on disease activity.
Advice
Follow all official instructions. Abide by national health and safety measures. Reconfirm all travel arrangements. Consider delaying traveling if experiencing symptoms associated with COVID-19, as they may prompt increased scrutiny and delays. Liaise with trusted contacts for further updates and guidance. Maintain contact with your diplomatic representation. Ensure contingency plans account for further disruptive measures or extensions of current restrictions. Reconsider and reconfirm nonemergency health appointments.
