Zambia: Power supply disruptions scheduled across parts of Lusaka Nov. 26-28
Power supply outages scheduled across parts of Lusaka, Zambia, Nov. 26-28. Plan for disruptions.
Event
Zambia's state-owned power company, ZESCO, issued a statement indicating it would cut supply to parts of Lusaka Nov. 26-28 due to scheduled maintenance work. Power outage will occur in the following areas at the times indicated:
06:00-14:00: Parts of Chimba Valley, Handsworth, parts of Ibex Hill, Kaunda Square Stages 1 and 2, Kalundu, Kalingalinga, Obama Kamanga, and Roma
14:00-22:00: Parts of Chelstone, Chunga, Great North Road, Kabanana, Kabangwe, Katuba, Lilanda, Mandevu, parts of Matero, Mtendere East, parts of Phi, and Salama Park
Temporary commercial and communications disruptions, including cellular and mobile services, are possible. Traffic disruptions and longer driving times are possible in areas experiencing outages due to malfunctioning traffic signals. Trains may also experience delays if outages impact signaling devices or overhead wires. Power outages could also result in the temporary unavailability of essential services such as ATMs and filling stations. There is an increased security threat during power outages. Blackouts could adversely affect security protocols, including alarm systems and electronic fences; opportunistic criminal activity could increase during electricity outages.
Advice
Charge all communication and portable electronic devices when possible. Unplug electronic equipment that is not connected to surge protectors. Exercise caution when driving in areas affected by power outages. Confirm business appointments. Verify that security systems are working, including after power resumes. Ensure that generators are functional and fully fueled.
