Officials increase security in Luxembourg City, Luxembourg, ahead of planned protests Dec. 11-12; localized transport disruptions possible.

Informational

Event

Authorities have announced increased security measures in Luxembourg City as of Dec. 10 ahead of planned protests denouncing current COVID-19-related restrictions. Demonstrations are reportedly scheduled to start in the capital at the following times and locations:

  • Dec. 11: 14:00 in the Glacis parking lot

  • Dec. 12: The Philharmonie Luxembourg concert hall, near the Place de l’Europe in Kirchberg

Police will monitor all related protests. Heightened security measures could prompt localized traffic and public transport disruptions. Officials have placed limits on gatherings in the capital Dec. 10-12, and are only permitting them in the vicinity of the Glacis parking lot, the Grand Duchess Charlotte Bridge, and the Place de l‘Europe; police could move to disperse any crowds that gather outside of these areas. Related protests held Dec. 4 turned violent, and officials have cautioned that further violence is possible during the Dec. 11-12 demonstrations. Clashes are particularly likely if demonstrators ignore police orders to disperse or become disruptive.

Advice

Avoid all protests as a standard security precaution and allow additional time for travel in areas of Luxembourg City near the planned demonstrations Dec. 11-12. Leave the area at the first sign of a confrontation. Follow the instructions of security personnel.
