Uruguay: Transport workers plan nationwide strikes Dec. 10, 17, and 23

Interdepartmental transport workers plan to hold nationwide strikes Dec. 10, 17, and 23. The purpose of the actions is to protest a lack of progress in ongoing negotiations over higher wages. Activists are also considering a general transport workers' strike Dec. 23.

Unless averted, the strike actions will likely disrupt passenger bus travel along routes both within and between departments across Uruguay. Associated rallies in urban cannot be discounted. Any demonstrations that occur will almost certainly attract heightened security and could result in localized transport disruptions.
