Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan: Kazakhstan closes two border crossings with Kyrgyzstan Jan. 7

Kazakhstan closes two border crossings with Kyrgyzstan as of Jan. 7; check border status before travel.

Warning

Event

Kazakh officials have reportedly closed the Ken-Bulun and Tokmok border crossings as of Jan. 7. The closure is reportedly due to a technical issue, though could also be related to ongoing unrest in Almaty Region, bordering Kyrgyzstan. It is unclear when the crossings will reopen.

Other border crossings, including Korday-Akjol and Kara-Su-Aktilek, remain operational. Although the situation at alternative crossings is reported to be normal, additional congestion is possible.

Advice

Check border crossing status and entry/exit requirements before travel and plan for possible freight delays supply chain disruptions until the crossings have resumed operations.
