Informational

Event

Activists plan to protest outside the Military Tribunal Court in Beirut from 09:00 Jan. 26 to demand the release of arrested protester Elie Haykal. Authorities claimed Haykal assaulted a police officer in June 2021 and arrested him Jan. 19 for allegedly not responding to the summons. Haykal and his supporters maintain that no such assault occurred. Dozens to a hundred individuals could attend the demonstration.

Increased security and localized transport disruptions are likely near the Military Tribunal Court the morning of Jan. 26. Clashes between police and protesters cannot be ruled out, particularly if demonstrators are overly disruptive or if they ignore police orders to disperse.

Advice
