Solomon Airlines suspends flights between Honiara and Marau, Solomon Islands, as of Jan. 7 due to land dispute.
Event
A land dispute near Marau Airport (RUS) in southern Guadalcanal Province prompted Solomon Airlines (IE) to suspend flights from Honiara International Airport (HIR) Jan. 7. The nature of the dispute in Marau remains unclear, but SI claims it is unsafe to operate at RUS until further notice.
SI operates a twice-weekly service between HIR and RUS. Increased demand is possible for alternative modes of transport due to the flight suspension.
