Eswatini: Student activists plan protest in Manzini Feb. 9

Student activists led by the Swaziland Student Command and the Swaziland National Union of Students plan to protest in Manzini Feb. 9. The protest is scheduled to demand the release of activist Colani Maseko. Participants will gather at the Manzini Magistrate Court at 09:00.

Police are likely to maintain a heightened security presence at the court and its environs Feb. 9. Short-term significant but highly localized disruptions are likely near all gatherings. Any street protests that form have the potential to be highly disruptive. Widespread violence is unlikely, but cannot be discounted entirely as previous politically motivated demonstrations have degenerated into clashes.
