Event

Officials declared a seven-day mourning period March 12 in response to former President Rupiah Banda's passing on March 11. Authorities have requested the members of the public cancel all entertainment events from 06:00-18:00 during the mourning period. In addition, a state funeral will be held at the Lusaka Show Ground from 10:00 March 17. Local and foreign dignitaries will attend. On March 18, the former president will be laid to rest at the Presidential Burial Site, Embassy Park, Lusaka. A church service will also be held at the Anglican Cathedral of the Holy Cross in the capital from 10:00 March 18.

Authorities will almost certainly deploy security personnel to all official events. Officials could close roads near official venues to facilitate the movement of dignitaries. The presence of large crowds could also cause localized ground travel delays.
