Costa Rica: Most COVID-19-related measures lifted as of early April /update 51

Most of Costa Rica's COVID-19-related restrictions lifted as of early April.

Informational

Event

Authorities in Costa Rica have lifted most of the nation's COVID-19-related restrictions on domestic activities and international travel as of early April.

Domestic Measures
Restrictions for the use of private vehicles have been lifted nationwide. All businesses, restaurants, and tourist venues can open without capacity or time limits; individuals are no longer required to show proof of being fully vaccinated for access to such establishments. The use of facemasks remains mandatory in indoor public settings.

International Travel Restrictions
All travelers can enter Costa Rica by air regardless of their country of origin. Foreign travelers no longer need to complete a health affidavit (i.e., Health Pass) and are no longer required to have health insurance if they are unvaccinated against COVID-19.

Authorities could reimpose, extend, further ease, or otherwise amend any restrictions with little-to-no notice, depending on disease activity over the coming weeks.

Advice

Heed the directives of local authorities. Reconfirm all health-related travel requirements before travel. Confirm appointments in advance.
