Mali: Protests planned in Bamako May 10 and 13
Protests are scheduled at Avenue de l'Independance, Bamako, Mali, May 10 and 13. Increased security and road congestion are likely.
Event
Two protests are scheduled along Avenue (also called Boulevard) de l'Independance in Bamako on May 10 and 13.
The Sauvons le Mali Dokera civil society group has called for a demonstration from 14:00 May 10 to demand the lifting of sanctions imposed on Mali. Participants will gather at the Monument de l'Independance and march towards the Bourse du Travail.
The Collectif pour la Defense des Militaires civil society group has called for a protest along the avenue from 14:00 May 13 to support the armed forces and transitional authorities.
The events will likely be well attended, along with an increased security presence, likely causing road traffic disruptions along the avenue. While the events will likely pass off peacefully, skirmishes between protesters and police remain possible.
Advice
Avoid all demonstrations and large concentrations of police and plan accordingly for ground travel disruptions. Heed the instructions of local authorities. Depart the area at the first sign of a confrontation.
