France: Activists to demonstrate in central Lyon June 22

Activists to demonstrate in central Lyon, France, June 22. Increased security, localized disruptions likely; isolated clashes possible.

Informational

Event

Anti-fascist activists plan to demonstrate in central Lyon June 22. The purpose of the action is to denounce far-right activity in France, in particular a recent knife incident involving a member of a far-right group in Lyon. France Insoumise and other political parties and organizations have confirmed their intention to join the action. Participants will gather outside the Rhone Prefecture Building from 18:30; attendance will likely be in the hundreds.

Additional police will deploy to monitor the action. The demonstration and associated security measures, including possible road closures and movement restrictions, will likely prompt localized transport disruptions. Isolated clashes between activists and police cannot be ruled out, particularly if participants attempt to breach any security cordons.

Advice

Avoid the demonstration as a routine security precaution and to mitigate associated disruptions. Heed instructions from security services and leave the area at the first sign of a confrontation. Check for disruptions and allow extra time for travel in the affected area the evening of June 22.
