Informational

Event

Multiple groups have called for protests across Pakistan June 10 to condemn remarks by two Indian politicians on the Muslim Prophet Muhammad. Organizers include Islamist parties such as Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) and Tehreek-e-Labbaik (TLP), as well as the Pakistan Ulema Council. Most demonstrations will occur following afternoon Islamic prayers. Senate members will rally outside the Indian embassy in Islamabad; additional events may occur there. Other popular protest venues are government buildings, major intersections, press clubs, public squares, and religious sites. Hundreds of people are likely to join demonstrations in major cities. Announced marches by the TLP include:

  • Hyderabad: Kohinoor Plaza to the Hyderabad Press Club, 15:30

  • Karachi: Tibet Center to the Karachi Press Club, 15:30

  • Lahore: Data Darbar shrine to the Darbar Ameer-ul-Mujahideen shrine, 15:00

  • Multan: Daulat Gate intersection to the Katchery Chowk intersection, 15:30

  • Muzaffarabad: Jamia Masjid along Bank Road to the Muzaffarabad Press Club, 15:00

  • Peshawar: Hazara Khawani shrine to Jameel Chowk intersection, 14:30

  • Quetta: Jamia Masjid Usmania towards the Quetta Press Club via the Railway Divisional Superintendent office, 15:00

  • Rawalpindi: Liaquatbad Bagh to Faizabad, 15:00

  • Sargodha: At Company Bagh, 17:00

Heightened security is certain in and around protest sites. Typical security measures include increased security deployment and road closures. Localized transport disruptions are likely, especially if activists march or hold vehicle convoys to the demonstration venues from various locations and/or block nearby roadways. Protestors may clash with police and/or rival party members. Security personnel may use tear gas or water cannons to forcibly disperse disruptive crowds.

Advice

Avoid the protests as a precaution. Do not navigate roadblocks due to the risk of violence. Confirm business appointments, road status, and travel reservations, especially if operating in city centers; plan for travel delays and possible business disruptions. If clashes break out, leave the area immediately and seek shelter at a safe non-government building. Monitor trusted local media for updates as organizers may change plans at short notice or hold unannounced gatherings. Follow all security and traffic advisories.
