Warning

Event

Activists affiliated with the Plenario Intersindical de Trabajadores-Convencion Nacional de Trabajadores (PIT-CNT) union intend to hold a four-hour nationwide strike in Uruguay 09:00-13:00 July 7. Organizers indicate that most government offices in the country will be closed during those hours, as well as public high schools; taxi services and services in private healthcare centers are also likely to be disrupted.

Additionally, demonstrators intend to march in multiple locations, with the largest protest planned in Montevideo. Activists intend to gather at Plaza Independencia starting at 10:00, and from there march along Avenida 18 de Julio and Avenida Libertador en route to the Legislative Palace.

Thousands are likely to participate in the march in Montevideo. Heightened security and traffic disruptions are likely along the march route.

Advice

Avoid all protests as a precaution. Allow additional time to reach your destination if operating in Montevideo July 7. Confirm medical and business appointments in advance.
