Officials impose COVID-19 curbs in parts of Shenzhen, Guangdong Province, China as of Aug. 29. Localized disruptions likely.
Event
Officials in Guangdong Province are imposing tighter restrictions in parts of Shenzhen as of Aug. 29 due to COVID-19 activity. Lockdown and stay-home measures are in effect in Huaqiangbei, Nanyuan, and Yuanling subdistricts in Futian District, as well as Guiyuan, Nanhu, and Sungang subdistricts in Luohu District, through at least Sept. 1. All individuals must work from home and nonessential businesses are suspended. At most one person from each household may leave once every two days to purchase daily necessities and must present a negative nucleic acid test result taken within 24 hours. Restaurants may only provide takeaway services. Authorities have closed 24 metro stations, most of them located in Futian and Luohu districts. The government has also rerouted bus services to avoid the affected areas. Officials will likely carry out several rounds of testing in these locations before easing restrictions.
Additional measures are possible in other parts of Shenzhen if new COVID-19 cases emerge. Strict controls, such as stay-at-home orders and closure of nonessential businesses, are possible. Increased health screenings will likely continue at border checkpoints, ports, and other passenger transport hubs in Shenzhen. Business disruptions and production delays are likely in the affected areas of Shenzhen due to COVID-19 health protocols.
