University students, professors, and workers plan to march in San Jose, early Aug. 16, to oppose a proposed reduction of the country's higher education budget. Activists intend to gather outside the main campus of the Universidad de Costa Rica (UCR), along Avenida 7, and starting at 08:00, they plan to march through la Rotonda de la Hispanidad, near the Mall San Pedro, and continue through Circunvalacion to arrive outside the Presidential House in Zapote.

It is possible that thousands of people could participate in the march, which is likely to cause significant transport disruptions through many areas of San Jose. Heightened security near government buildings and businesses is likely.

Avoid all protests as a precaution. Allow additional time and look for alternative routes to reach your destination, if operating in San Jose, the morning of Aug. 16.
