Students, professors, and workers affiliated with the Universidad de la Republica (UDELAR) plan to hold a protest in Montevideo, Aug. 18. Activists intend to gather along Avenida General Flores, between the schools of Chemistry and Medicine, starting 18:00. From there, they intend to march to the nearby Legislative Palace. The action is to oppose a possible reduction to the university's budget.

Thousands may participate in the demonstration, which is likely to create transport and business disruptions in the area. Heightened security around the Legislative Palace is also likely. Violence cannot be discounted, especially if protesters are unruly or attempt to block roads.
