Germany: Activist groups plan pro-Russia rally and counterprotests in Frankfurt, Sept. 18

Separate activist groups plan pro-Russia rally and counterprotests in Frankfurt, Germany, Sept. 18. Increased security, disruptions likely.

Informational

Event

Activists representing "Association of Russian Germans" plan to protest in Frankfurt Sept. 18. Attendees will gather in Opernplatz at 13:00, demanding "peace, freedom, free speech" amongst other anti-government and pro-Russian demands. The organizers have requested a license for up to 1500 attendees but a similar rally in April attracted only 800, and one in May only 300.

A counterprotest by the alliance "Frankfurt for Ukraine" is planned for Rossmarkt from 12:00.

Local authorities are likely to deploy additional police to facilitate and monitor the protests. Road closures are possible and localized disruption to travel, including bus routes, cannot be ruled out. Scuffles are possible between protestors and counterprotestors or with police.

Advice

Avoid the protests as a routine security precaution. Follow local travel and security advice. Allow extra time for travel in and around Frankfurt during the affected period. In the event of violence, withdraw from the area and seek refuge.
