Environmental activists plan to demonstrate in Seoul Sept. 23 and 24 as a part of the Climate Justice Week awareness program.
Sept. 23: Protesters will gather at Yongsan Station from 11:00 before marching to the presidential office; the action is scheduled to end by 13:00.
Sept. 24: Activists will gather in the Gwanghwamun area of Jongno District 13:00-19:00; organizers will host a public assembly from 15:00 and lead a march around Jongno District.
Thousands of people from over 150 organizations plan to participate in the events. Additional smaller gatherings could also occur in central Seoul near prominent government buildings, public squares, and roadways.
Security personnel will likely monitor the protests and may attempt to disperse the gatherings if they are especially disruptive. Localized transport disruptions may occur as activists intend to march along roadways, particularly near Hangang-daero. While the demonstrations will probably pass peacefully, isolated skirmishes between activists and security personnel remain possible.
