Environmental activists linked with Elokapina-Extinction Rebellion Finland plan to protest in Helsinki through Oct. 14. Officials in Helsinki have warned that gatherings from 17:00 Oct. 6 along Mannerheimintie are likely to cause significant disruptions. Police have indicated that they are also preparing for counterdemonstrations. The location of events Oct. 7-14 is unclear; however, Police of Finland are likely to continue to issue updates via their website, available by clicking here. Protesters are likely to gather in the city center. Demonstrations are likely to attract dozens to a few hundred activists.

Heightened security is likely near all protest locations. Demonstrations could cause short-term and highly localized road travel disruptions. Public transportation could also be impacted. Clashes are unlikely; however, some confrontations are possible if counterprotests go ahead.
