Workers from the Honduran Bank for Production and Housing (Banco Hondureno para la Produccion y la Vivienda, BANHPROVI) are protesting in downtown Tegucigalpa Oct. 17. Protesters are demanding the dismissal of the head of BANHPROVI, Edwin Araque, following allegations that he unfairly fired members of the governing party from the bank. Participants have blocked the road around the BANHPROVI office with burning tires, and have stated that the protest could spread to other parts of the capital.

Security forces will almost certainly deploy to monitor the demonstration. Transport disruptions are likely to continue in the vicinity of the protest. Isolated low-level skirmishes are possible.
