Honduras: Pro-government activists plan to demonstrate nationwide Aug. 29

Government supporters to demonstrate across Honduras Aug. 29; heightened security and disruptions likely.

Warning

Event

Supporters of the Honduran government plan to stage rallies nationwide on Aug. 29. The purpose of the action is to demand the election of a new Attorney General and Deputy Attorney General by the end of the month. Organizers have as yet provided no specifics concerning gathering locations or start times. The planned demonstrations have the support of the Liberty and Refoundation Party (Libre).

Although the action should remain largely peaceful, authorities are likely to maintain a heightened security posture as a precaution. Isolated clashes cannot be ruled out, particularly if activists from rival political camps attempt to stage counter-demonstrations. Transport disruptions are likely in protest-affected areas.

Advice

Avoid all demonstrations as a precaution. Allow additional time to reach destinations near locations where rallies are taking place on Aug. 29. Heed the instructions of local authorities.
