Libya: Further protests over the government's relationship with Israel are possible through late August /update 2
Further protests over the government's relationship with Israel are possible nationwide in Libya through late August.
Event
Further protests over the government's relationship with Israel are possible through late August, particularly in western Libya. Disruptive protests were reported nationwide overnight Aug. 27-28, including in Tripoli, after Israel's Foreign Ministry announced that Libyan Foreign Minister Najla Mangoush had met with Israeli Foreign Minister Eli Cohen in Italy. Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibah has since suspended Mangoush pending an investigation.
Protests, should they occur, are likely near prominent government buildings and major thoroughfares. Protests could escalate during the evening and early morning. Heightened security is likely near all protest sites. Clashes between demonstrators and security personnel are possible if protesters are overly disruptive or engage in acts of public violence.
Advice
Avoid all protests. Consider taking alternative routes to avoid protests and any related disruptions. Adhere to all instructions issued by local officials and your home government.
