Unionized miners and energy workers to strike and rally in Sofia, Sept. 19. The Confederation of Independent Trade Unions in Bulgaria (CITUB) is planning a national protest rally in support of the coal mining industry. A number of other labor unions will support the action. Attendees will gather in central Sofia, adjacent to the National Assembly and the Council of Ministers on Boulevard Dondukov. It is unclear how many participants may attend.

Authorities are likely to deploy additional police to monitor the rally. Heightened security is likely at the National Assembly, Council of Ministers, and at adjacent government buildings. Road closures are possible, localized transport disruptions are likely.
