Finland, Russia: Finnish authorities closing four border crossings with Russia from Nov. 17 through Feb. 18

Finland closing four main border crossings with Russia from Nov. 17 through Feb. 18. Additional disruptions likely at other crossings.

Informational

Finnish authorities are closing four of nine Finland-Russia border crossings from the night of Nov. 17-18 to Feb. 18. The Imatra, Niirala, Nuijamaa, and Vaalimaa crossings will be closed to all passage; these crossings previously handled the most. Authorities took this decision following reports of increased flows of asylum seekers. Finnish authorities note that the measure may be ended early or extended depending on future developments.

Increased delays are likely at the remaining border crossings.

Allow additional time to cross the Russia-Finland border. Ensure that all necessary documents are readily available when crossing. Strictly heed all instructions from Finnish authorities.
