Warning

Emergency services are responding to a shooting attack at a checkpoint on Route 60, known as the "Tunnels", south of Jerusalem, Nov. 16. The incident reportedly injured five people, including one critically. Israel Police has confirmed that the three suspected assailants were shot and killed. Border Police and Israel Defense Forces are still investigating the scene of the attack.

Heightened security and disruptions to transport and business are likely in the affected area over the coming hours. Tensions remain high in Israel, and further attacks are possible.

On Oct. 7, Hamas, the Gaza-based militant group, launched a surprise land, sea, and air assault against Israel. Since then, the IDF and Hamas have been engaged in cross-border fighting. The risk of conflict-related militant attacks in Israel, particularly in Jerusalem, has increased. Communal violence, as well as conflict-related demonstrations, are likely throughout Israel and Palestinian Territories.
