Education workers likely to continue to disrupt traffic in Istmo de Tehuantepec region in Oaxaca State, Mexico, through at least Nov. 20.

Warning

Education workers affiliated with the National Coordinating Committee of Education Workers (Coordinadora Nacional de Trabajadores de la Educacion, CNTE) will likely continue to disrupt traffic on several roads in the Istmo de Tehuantepec region in Oaxaca State through at least Nov. 20. Protest participants have demanded the delivery of school uniforms, the dismissal of some state educational authority officials, and the beginning of construction work on the Tehuantepec hospital. Protesters have reportedly blocked various points along Federal Highway 185, Federal Highway 185D, and Federal Highway 190. The protests have disrupted the flow of traffic toward Oaxaca city and the neighboring states of Chiapas and Veracruz.

Related demonstrations may also materialize in other locations over the coming days. Heightened security and transport disruptions are likely in areas subject to protest activity. Disruptions will also likely impact local businesses dependent on truck shipments. Clashes are possible if security forces try to forcibly disperse protesters.

Avoid all demonstrations as a precaution. Allow additional time to reach destinations and seek alternative routes to circumvent impacted areas. Confirm appointments. Do not attempt to navigate around blockades; wait for authorities to clear them. Comply with directives given by local officials.
