Authorities are responding to a train crash in the vicinity of the Howard Rail Yard in Chicago, Illinois, Nov. 16. The crash reportedly occurred at around 10:39 and involved a Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) Yellow Line train "making contact with rail equipment" in the area. The incident injured at least 12 people.

Officials have temporarily suspended rail transport service on the Yellow and Purple lines, as well as on part of the Red line between Howard and Thorndale. Additionally, authorities have closed several roads in the area amid the emergency response, including Chicago Avenue between West Howard Street and South Boulevard.

Officials will almost certainly maintain a heightened security presence around the incident site for the duration of the emergency response. Consequent road traffic disruptions are likely over the coming hours. Rail transport disruptions will likely impact parts of the Chicago area into at least late Nov. 16 in connection with the incident.
