Unionized teachers continue to strike and protest in Portland, Ore., US, as of Nov. 16. Localized disruptions possible.

Informational

Educators affiliated with the Portland Association of Teachers (PAT) maintain a citywide strike in Portland, Oregon, as of Nov. 16. The strike started Nov. 1 and has continued due to a lack of agreement between union leaders and Portland Public Schools (PPS) management. PAT members are demanding smaller classes and higher salaries, among other changes. The union represents about 4,500 teachers, with around 45,000 students attending PPS schools.

Related rallies have occurred and are likely to continue throughout the city, including outside PAT headquarters in Northeast Portland, Portland Public Schools main offices along Dixon Street, and outside public schools throughout the district. Localized transport disruptions are possible near any such gatherings.

Avoid any protests or pickets as a precaution to mitigate associated disruptions. Reconfirm any business appointments at PPS offices and schools during the labor action. Plan accordingly for increased absenteeism among employees who are the parents or guardians of school-aged children.
