France: Activists to demonstrate nationwide Jan. 11

Activists to protest across France Jan. 11 to denounce sexism. Heightened security, localized transport disruptions likely near protests.

Warning

Activists are planning to protest across France Jan. 11 to denounce sexism and sexual violence. Organizers call on participants to take part in rallies in front of all prefecture offices and courthouses across the country. It is unclear how many participants may attend. Planned demonstrations include:

  • Marseille: Marseille Courthouse (61 Rue Grignan) at 18:00

  • Montpellier: Prefecture de Herault (34 Pl. Martyrs de la Resistance) at 18:30

  • Nantes: Nantes Courthouse at 17:30

  • Nice: Place Pierre-Gautier at 12:30

  • Paris: Place Saint Augustin at 18:00

Heightened security and localized transport disruptions are likely near all demonstrations. Though unlikely, low-level confrontations between protesters and law enforcement officers or frustrated motorists cannot be ruled out.

Avoid affected areas as a standard precaution. Allow additional time if traveling near any protest areas. Strictly heed all instructions from law enforcement officers. Immediately depart the area at the first sign that any security disturbance may occur.
