France: Civil society groups to demonstrate in Paris and other cities nationwide, Jan. 21

Civil society groups to demonstrate against immigration laws in Paris and other cities across France, Jan. 21. Heightened security likely.

Warning

Civil society groups plan to demonstrate in Paris and other cities nationwide, Jan. 21. Opposition political parties, labor unions, and multiple other pro-migrant groups will denounce the government's recent reforms of immigrants' rights. The largest event is likely to be in Paris, where attendees will gather in Place de Trocadero at 14:00, and then march to Place de la Concorde. It is likely that thousands, possibly tens of thousands, of people will take part based on similar events in Paris in recent weeks. Several hundred participants, to low thousands, are likely to take part in each event planned in other major urban centers nationwide.

Heightened security and localized transport disruptions are likely near the demonstration sites. Low-level confrontations between protesters and law enforcement officers cannot be ruled out.

Avoid the affected areas as a standard precaution. Allow additional time if traveling near the protest sites. Strictly heed all instructions from law enforcement officers. Immediately depart the area at the first sign that any security disturbance may occur.
