Brazil: Unionized bus workers begin indefinite strike in Salvador May 17
Unionized bus workers start indefinite strike in Salvador, Bahia State, Brazil, May 17. Disruptions likely.
Bus workers affiliated with the Union of Road Transport Workers of the Metropolitan Region of Salvador (Trabalhadores em Transportes Rodoviarios da Regiao Metropolitana de Salvador, SINDMETRO) began an indefinite strike on May 17. The strike is mostly affecting services in six areas of the Metropolitan Area of Salvador, namely Candeias, Camacari, Madre de Deus, Sao Francisco, Santo Amaro, and Simoes Filho. The workers are making several labor-related demands.
Related protests are possible, though none have been confirmed as yet. In addition to the direct impact on public transport in Salvador, the walkout is likely to result in increased traffic congestion and demand for taxis, app-based ride-sharing, and metro services.
Reconfirm public transportation schedules if operating in Salvador Metropolitan Area for the duration of the strike. Allow extra time to reach destinations. Avoid any possible protests. Heed instructions from authorities.
