Turkiye: Opposition activists to demonstrate in central Ankara May 26

Republican People's Party to rally at Tandogan Square in Ankara, Turkiye, 14:00 May 26. Heightened security likely; confrontations possible.

Warning

Activists affiliated with the opposition Republican People's Party (Cumhuriyet Halk Partisi, CHP) plan to hold a rally at Tandogan Square (Tandogan Meydani) in Ankara from 14:00 May 26. The purpose of the action is to show support for pensioners and draw attention to the needs of retirees. It is unclear how many participants may attend the event; however, previous CHP gatherings in the Turkish capital have drawn large crowds.

Heightened security and localized transport disruptions are likely near the rally site. Confrontations, including clashes, between attendees and law enforcement officers cannot be ruled out.

Avoid the affected area as a standard precaution. Allow additional time to reach destinations in the vicinity of Tandogan Square, including Ankara's main railway station, during the afternoon of May 26. Strictly heed all instructions from law enforcement officers. Immediately depart the area at the first sign of any security disturbance.
