Ukraine: Authorities could implement partial power shutdown nationwide through early June /update 2
Planned power shutdowns possible for industrial and domestic consumers across Ukraine through early June.
Ukrainian energy provider Ukrenergo could implement occasional planned and unplanned power outages nationwide for industrial and domestic consumers through at least early June. On May 31, Ukrenergo announced that it planned to implement an outage for domestic and industrial consumers nationwide from 18:00-23:00 June 1. In case of further power disruptions, authorities indicate that critical infrastructure will not be affected. Ukrenergo cites damage to national energy infrastructure caused by Russian military strikes as the reason for the possible outages. Further major Russian airstrikes could cause additional damage to Ukraine's energy network, prompting occasional unplanned outages.
Transport, business, and telecommunications disruptions will likely impact areas subject to power outages. Malfunctioning traffic signals may disrupt traffic flow in some areas and lead to longer driving times. The electricity disruptions could also result in the temporary unavailability of facilities such as ATMs and gas stations. Additionally, power disruptions could adversely affect security protocols, including alarm systems and electronic fences; opportunistic criminal activity could increase during the blackouts.
Charge mobile and essential electrical devices when possible and ensure backup batteries are available. Exercise caution when driving in areas that are experiencing electricity disruptions. Park vehicles in secure areas. Confirm business appointments. Verify that security systems are working. Ensure that generators are functional and refuel devices when necessary.
