Italy: Activists to demonstrate in Rome June 18
Opposition activists to protest at Piazza Santi Apostoli in Rome, Italy, 17:30 June 18. Heightened security, transport disruptions likely.
Opposition activists affiliated with the Democratic Party (Partito Democratico, PD) plan to protest at Piazza Santi Apostoli in Rome from 17:30 June 18. The purpose of the demonstration is to denounce the alleged intimidating environment created by conservative groups in the national parliament. It was not immediately clear how many participants may attend; however, large crowds may gather.
Heightened security and localized transport disruptions are likely near the protest site. Confrontations between demonstrators and law enforcement officers cannot be ruled out.
Avoid the protest area as a standard precaution. Allow additional time if traveling near the Piazza Santi Apostoli. Strictly heed all instructions from law enforcement officers. Immediately depart the area at the first sign that any security disturbance may occur.
The PD is the currently Italy's main opposition party and has the second highest number of seats in the Italian Parliament.
