Taiwan: Annual Wan An and Han Kuang civil-military drills to occur islandwide July 22-26
Taiwan to hold annual civil-military exercises July 22-26. Plan for heightened security, transport disruptions.
Taiwan will hold the annual Wan An air-raid drills and the Han Kuang military exercises July 22-26. The annual Wan An air-raid drills will be divided into four regions July 22-25. The Ministry of National Defense (MND) has announced that the drills will occur in various locations on the following dates:
July 22: Central region
July 23: Northern region
July 24: Eastern region and outlying islands
July 25: Southern region
During the air-raid drills, officials will suspend most transport and pedestrian movement for 30 minutes. Individuals must remain indoors or move to local shelters, and motorists must pull to the side of the road. The drill will not impact most highway traffic or public transportation services, but users must comply with regulations in all other locations, including when disembarking from train stations.
Additionally, the military will conduct the live-fire portion of the Han Kuang military exercises in parts of Taiwan July 22-26. Simulations featuring joint maneuvers will occur at 12 airports, ports, and beaches near prominent political and commercial centers, such as Taoyuan International Airport (TPE) and the Tamsui River estuary.
Heightened security is likely in major cities; military, law enforcement, and emergency service personnel will participate in the exercises. The drills may prompt localized ground transport disruptions. The Han Kuang exercise could cause temporary delays at various ports, airports, and other similar facilities.
Exercise caution and allow additional time to reach destinations. Stay updated on local announcements and follow instructions from authorities. Carry proper identification documents at all times. Plan for potential shipping congestion and delays. Use alternative shipping methods for time-sensitive freight. Confirm flight schedules in advance. Do not check out of accommodations until onward travel is confirmed.
