Authorities responding to shooting of politician on Masaryka Street in Lviv, Ukraine, July 19; lingering increased security measures likely.

Authorities are responding to the reported shooting of politician Iryna Farion in the vicinity of 3 Masaryka Street in Lviv's Shevchenkivskyi District on the evening of July 19. Farion was reported as being in critical condition following the shooting and has been hospitalized. Law enforcement officers had launched an operation to search for and apprehend the assailant as of around 20:20. Officials will almost certainly provide updates over the coming hours.

Heightened security measures and transport disruptions will likely affect the vicinity of the shooting as well as other parts of Lviv over the short term as authorities continue their investigation into the incident and search for the suspect. A large-scale police mobilization will probably persist in Lviv until authorities arrest or otherwise neutralize the shooter.
