Tunisia: Activists plan to march in Tunis from 18:00 on Aug. 13
Women's rights activists to march in central Tunis, Tunisia, from 18:00 on Aug. 13. Tight security and transport disruption are likely.
Women's rights activists affiliated with several organizations and groups, including the Aswat Women's Association, the Bayti Association, and the Tunisian League for the Defense of Human Rights, plan to protest march in central Tunis from 18:00 on Aug. 13. Activists aim to denounce alleged women rights violations and demand the release of female prisoners among other things. Participants plan to gather at the General Union of Tunisian Workers building before marching along Avenue Habib Bourguiba to an unspecified location. Dozens to a few hundred individuals could attend the demonstration.
Increased security and localized transport disruptions are likely in the affected area through the evening of Aug. 13. Clashes between police and protesters are possible, mainly if the latter are overly disruptive or ignore police orders to disperse.
Avoid the protest as a precaution and to minimize travel delays. Heed the advice of security personnel. Allow additional time if traveling through the affected area. Leave the area at the first sign of unrest.
