Turkiye: Activists to demonstrate in Gaziantep Aug. 24
Opposition activists to protest at Istasyon Meydani in Gaziantep, Turkiye from 18:00 Aug. 24. Heightened security likely.
Opposition activists and agricultural workers plan to protest at Istasyon Meydani in Gaziantep from 18:00 Aug. 24. The purpose of the demonstration is to denounce the alleged negative effect that government policies have had on agricultural producers. Members of Republican People's Party (CHP), including Party Chairman Ozgur Ozel, plan to participate in the demonstration. It was not immediately clear how many participants may attend; however, large crowds may gather.
Heightened security and localized transport disruptions are likely near the protest site. Confrontations between demonstrators and law enforcement officers cannot be ruled out. Crowding at the protest area may complicate access to entrances and exits of Gaziantep Gari Station: however, the demonstration is unlikely to disrupt rail activity.
Avoid the affected area as a standard precaution. Allow additional time if traveling near the protest site. Strictly heed all instructions from law enforcement officers. Immediately depart the area at the first sign that any security disturbance may occur.
