Greece: Workers demonstrating in Thessaloniki Dec. 12
Unionized workers marching from Venizelos Statue through central Thessaloniki, Greece, as of evening Dec. 12. Heightened security likely.
Unionized workers are marching through central Thessaloniki as of the evening of Dec. 12. The demonstration is to denounce the government's planned 2025 budget. Participants initially gathered at the Statue of Eleftherios Venizelos on Egnatia. It was not immediately clear what route the procession would take.
Police will likely deploy along the march route to facilitate the demonstration. The procession will likely disrupt vehicular transport and low-level confrontations between demonstrators and law enforcement officers, frustrated motorists, or opposed individuals cannot be ruled out.
Avoid the affected area as a standard precaution. Allow additional time if traveling in central Thessaloniki. Strictly heed all instructions from law enforcement officers. Immediately depart the area at the first sign that any security disturbance may occur.
