Puerto Rico: Activists to march in San Juan on Dec. 10 over environmental issues and better energy services
Activists to march in San Juan, Puerto Rico, from 09:30 Dec. 10, to demand improved energy services and environmental policies.
Members of environmental and religious organizations, including Sierra Club and the Continental Christian Network for Peace (Red Continental Cristiana por la Paz), plan to march in San Juan on Dec. 10. They are demanding authorities end the contract with the energy company LUMA, in charge of power distribution in Puerto Rico, and to support communities affected by toxic waste in parts of the island. The march is scheduled to start at 09:30, and demonstrators will go from Plaza Colon to La Fortaleza, the residence and central office.
Thousands may participate in the demonstration, which will likely prompt heightened security measures and associated transport disruptions throughout the Old San Juan area.
Avoid the protest as a standard precaution. Plan for delays and alternative routes in Old San Juan during the morning and early afternoon of Dec. 10.
