Spain: Farmers to stage tractor demonstrations in Madrid and other centers, Dec. 16-17
Farmers to stage tractor demonstrations in Madrid, Spain, and other centers, Dec. 16-17. Increased security, traffic disruptions likely.
Farmers' associations plan to conduct further protests in Madrid and other cities across Spain, Dec. 16-17. Agriculture unions including ASAJA and COAG will denounce the EU-Mercosur trade agreement with South American countries. As of Dec. 13, farmers plan to stage the following tractor processions and protests:
Dec. 16: Farmers' groups from the Aragon and Castilla y Leon regions will rally in Madrid, and converge on the Ministry of Agriculture from 11:00
Dec. 17: Farmers from the Castilla-La Mancha region will rally in Toledo.
Further farmers protests are highly likely in other regional centers, Dec. 16-17, and in the coming days. Several hundred farmers may take part in each event.
Heightened security is likely in the affected areas. The slow-moving vehicles will probably cause significant congestion in central Madrid, Dec. 16, and other protest locations. Transport disruptions are also expected on major roadways in and around the cities as participants arrive and depart.
Avoid the convoy route as a standard precaution. Allow additional time for travel in central Madrid during the day and for travel on major roads around the city. Strictly heed all instructions from law enforcement officers.
