Côte d'Ivoire: Water shortages continue in Bouaké /update 3

Bouaké continues to experience water shortages as of early June due to lack of rainfall in recent months; take precautionary measures

Warning

Event

As of early June, the central city of Bouaké continues to suffer from water shortages, ongoing now for three months amid a drought. Longer-term solutions such as importing water from Lake Kossou within two years, are being launched. In the meantime, emergency well drilling has started and tanker trucks have been deployed to distribute water.

Context

The shortages are due to low rainfall coupled with quarry work that has diverted water to the city's hydroelectric dam.

Advice

Individuals in Bouaké are advised to conserve water, stock up on bottled water, keep abreast of the situation via local media outlets, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities (e.g. water rationing measures).
