Orange and yellow storm and rain alerts issued for the north and center of the country October 9

The Uruguayan meteorological institute INUMET has issued orange storm and rain alerts - the second-highest level - for the north and northeast of the country. Lower yellow alerts are also in place for much of the center of the country. As of 06:00 (local time) on Tuesday, October 9, the orange alerts were in place in all or parts of the departments of Artigas, Cerro Largo, Durazno, Florida, Lavalleja, Paysandú, Rivera, Rocha, Salto, Tacuarembó, and Trenta y Tres. Associated flooding, power outages, and transportation disruptions cannot be ruled out.

Flooding is relatively common in Uruguay and can occur year round.
