The Union of Democratic Forces of Guinea (UFDG) and other opposition parties have called on supporters to participate in a "dead-city" protest in Conakry on Wednesday, November 21, to protest the government of President Alpha Condé. Organizers have also indicated the UFDG will lead a "peaceful" march in Conakry from the Bambeto roundabout to Carrefour T5 in Wanindara district on Thursday, November 22. A heightened security presence can be expected around all demonstrations. Clashes between protesters and police cannot be ruled out.
Context
Opposition protests have been held since mid-October to denounce the government of President Alpha Condé and the fact that some officials elected in controversial local elections held February 4 have not yet been sworn in. At least 100 people have been killed in clashes with security forces since Condé took power in 2010.
