France: Fire at Notre-Dame (Paris) completely extinguished April 16 /update 4

Firefighters completely extinguished fire at the Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris on April 16; road closures around Île de la Cité remain in effect

Emergency officials announced that the fire at Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris was completely extinguished at approximately 10:00 (local time) on Tuesday, April 16. However, 100 firefighters will remain deployed in the area to monitor the situation. A security perimeter around  Île de la Cité remains in place and all access to the island remain blocked as of Tuesday morning. 

Associated transportation disruptions are expected to continue throughout the day around the Cathedral. The police closed the Cité, Cluny-La Sorbonne, and Saint-Michel Notre-Dame metro stations and trains are expected to bypass the stations. Related rallies and memorials are possible in the coming hours and days. An investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the incident.

A fire broke out at Notre-Dame cathedral in Paris shortly before 19:00 on April 15. Unconfirmed reports claim the blaze began amid work to repair the cathedral's roof. At least two police officers and one firefighter were slightly wounded.
